Hayden Cardwell Cashes $2,000 Paycheck for Red Clay 602 Late Model Series Win at I-75 Raceway
Ryan DelphIt was all Hayden Cardwell nearly all the time on Friday night in round six of the Schaeffer's Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series schedule at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tennessee! Hayden stopped the clock fourth fastest overall during Knowles Race Parts and Bodies, LLC qualifying, which lined him up starting the 25-lap headliner from the outside of the second row. Hayden then assumed the point on lap two after leaders Seth Wimpey and Booger Brooks tangled in turn four.
From there, Hayden kept his #44 machine at the front of the field and survived a green-white-checkered finish to pocket the $2,000 payday. Finishing 1.119 seconds behind Cardwell at the unfurling of the checkered flag was sixth-starting Taylor Cole. Shaun Sise continued his string of podium efforts with the tour by finishing in the third spot. Griffin Smith, who captured a win with the series back in March at Buckshot Speedway, came home in the fourth position, while Tyler Dixon rounded out the top five finishers on Friday in the Volunteer State.
Current series point leader Dawson Lowe stretched out his lead with a solid sixth place performance. Dawson sits atop the Red Clay 602 Late Model Series standings over Justin Howard, Hunter Atkinson, Kevin Fisher, and Shaun Sise heading into the next series event on Saturday, April 26. The 602’s will vie for another $2,000 top prize next Saturday evening at the picturesque Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia.
