Round fourteen of the Schaeffer's Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series took place on Thursday night at Sugar Creek Raceway and it appeared that Seth Wimpey was going to add his name to the impressive list of victors with the tour this year, as the hometown driver dominated the 25-lap feature event from the outside of the front row. However, Wimpey’s #24 machine was found to have an illegal tire compound on the left rear and he was disqualified in post-race inspection. The misfortune for Wimpey turned into jubilation for Jason Deal, who inherited the $2,000 victory after initially finishing in the runner-up spot - 1.966 seconds back.

The fourth-starting Deal, who hails from Copperhill, Tennessee, was awarded the win over polesitter Griffin Smith, sixth-starting Dylan Beaver, Jody Wilson, and Cooper Twiggs. The C & S Auto Electric Hard Luck Award at Sugar Creek Raceway went to Colton Berrong, while the C&S Auto Electric Hard Charger Award went to Mike Davidson. The Alto, Georgia driver picked off six competitors to land in the ninth finishing position.

A total of 17 Red Clay 602 Late Model Series competitors were in the pit area for Thursday Night Thunder at Sugar Creek Raceway. Shaun Sise was fast right off the trailer in laying down the quickest lap in MRP Fantasy Racing Hot Laps with a time of 16.110 seconds. In Knowles Race Parts and Bodies, LLC qualifying, Griffin Smith topped the speed chart with his fast time of 16.236 seconds. The 25-lap main event was slowed by only one caution flag, which came on lap 13 for a slowing Jim Gray.
