Mike Davidson Dazzles During Dirt Invasion at Anderson Motor Speedway for Red Clay Series Win

Ryan Delph

The Schaeffer’s Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series was part of the Dirt Invasion program on Friday night at Anderson Motor Speedway and it was Mike Davidson that stole the show at the 3/8-mile asphalt oval.  With six cars signed into the infield pit area at the Williamston, South Carolina venue, Mike clicked off the quickest lap during Knowles Race Parts and Bodies qualifying to earn the pole position for the 25-lap main event.  The Alto, Georgia native then got the holeshot at the drop of the green flag and led every circuit of the caution-free affair to bag the $1,500 first place prize money.

At the unfurling of the checkered flag, Mike was 0.612 of a second ahead of runner-up Kevin Fisher, who started from the outside of the front row and ran in the second spot for the entire distance.  Mitchell Dickerson, who laid down the fastest time in MRP Fantasy Racing Hot Laps, rounded out the podium in third.  New series point leader Shaun Sise finished fourth in the final rundown, while Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer and current Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series point leader Ronnie Johnson was fifth.

“This place has owed me for a long time,” quoted the winning Davidson in victory lane.  “We fell out of a bunch of races with two or three laps to go in series races on pavement years ago, so to come back here tonight and do this (is special).  602 Late Model racing is so competitive, I mean every one of us was basically in the same tenth during qualifying.  I’m just glad to do it.  These crew guys over here work so hard on this racecar for me to race four or five times a year.  To win a touring race (like this) really means a lot.”

Mike Davidson’s #27 Capital racecar sported sponsorship in part from Jacky Jones Automotive Group, MD Enterprises, Freeman Plumbing, Nucor Building, American Racer South, A-Rob Performance Parts & Fuels, A Plus Signs, and Toccoa Raceway.

Next up for the Schaeffer’s Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series will be a stop at Winder-Barrow Speedway this Saturday evening, September 27.  A $2,000 payday will be up for grabs for the 602 Late Model competitors at the Winder, Georgia bullring.  Coming into round nineteen of the tour, Shaun Sise now leads the point standings over Justin Howard, Kevin Fisher, Griffin Smith, and Dawson Lowe.  Additional information on the Peach State facility can be accessed by pointing your web browser to www.winderbarrowspeedway.com.
