Richie Stephens Rockets to Red Clay 602 Late Model Series Win at Senoia Raceway
Ryan DelphRichie Stephens, of Phenix City, Alabama, recorded his first Schaeffer's Oil by Mike Bruner Red Clay 602 Late Model Series victory of the year on Thursday night at Senoia Raceway! After stopping the clock third quickest overall during Knowles Race Parts and Bodies, LLC qualifying, Richie started the 25-lap main event from the inside of the second row. Richie quickly moved up to the second spot on the first circuit and drove past polesitter Kendal Tucker to grab the point on the second lap.
From there, Richie survived seven caution flags and stayed out front of the 602 Late Model field for the remainder of the distance. At the checkers, Richie was 2.632 seconds ahead of his nearest competition to bag the $2,000 first place prize money. Ninth-starting Braxtin Barber blitzed to a runner-up finish, while seventh-starting Payton Stevenson, eighth-starting Koulten Herbert, and lap one leader Kendal Tucker rounded out the top five.
The C&S Auto Hard Charger Award went to Jay Coen, who advanced eight positions in the $2,000 to win feature to place sixth in the final rundown. The Hard Luck Award went to Marty Massey, while the Long Haul Award went to Kyle Couchenour, of Busti, New York. Kendal Tucker topped the 30-car field during the time trial session at the Senoia, Georgia oval with his fast lap of 15.908 seconds, while Cody King claimed the win in the lone American Racer South consolation race.
